IT Desktop Support/Junior System Administrator

OvaScience is looking for IT Desktop Support/ Junior System Administrator to join our team.   This position, based in Waltham, MA, will plan, install, configure, support all reactive support activities of the IT Department, as well as ensure proper computer & systems operation so that end users can accomplish business tasks. This individual will assist with identifying, recommending, procuring, developing, implementing, and supporting cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the company. The right individual must have the highest level of customer service skills to work with all levels of the organization. This role will be part time and report to the Manager, IT.


Key Responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Manage & respond to helpdesk tickets in a timely manner
  • Evaluate the performance of IT/Infrastructure systems to ensure proper functionality.
  • Responsible for updates to desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets, printers and other computing peripherals and their associated software
  • Able to communicate both verbally and written to document support issues
  • Manage IT component and software license inventories.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work after hours and weekends
  • Basic understanding of Service Desk metrics/SLA’s
  • Provide remote and desk side support to OvaScience employees and consultants
  • Establish & maintain a good working relationship with OvaScience employees
  • Troubleshoot system and network problems and diagnose and solve hardware or software faults
  • Identify, learn and keep updated with the appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the OvaScience
  • Implement & support the roll-out of new applications; testing and evaluating
  • Prioritize and manage open support requests
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including: installation of anti-virus software, checking and cleaning of workstations, printers and peripherals


Our ideal candidate will have:

  • BA or BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields
  • 4-6 years of IT system administration experience
  • Working understand of Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Experience working within the Healthcare/Pharmaceutical industry a plus
  • Exceptional customer service/support skills
  • Knowledge of end user and server computer hardware
  • Experience with a wide array of operating systems including; Windows desktop, mobile, and server OSs; Apple desktop and mobile OSs; and Android
  • Experience with VMware vSphere 6.0 a plus
  • Experience with Office 365 a plus
